Barbara Eden, 95, Cancels Festival Appearance Due to Medication Side Effects, Reassures Fans She's "Okay"

Barbara Eden took to Instagram to set the record straight about the "miscommunication" behind why she canceled her appearance at the Cinecon Classic Film Festival, which was set to honor her with its Legacy Award.

Shortly before she was scheduled to be honored at the Cinecon Classic Film Festival, Barbara Eden had to cancel her appearance due to a medical matter.

A statement released by the event organizers announced the “I Dream of Jeannie” star “will no longer be able to appear in person,” citing a “sudden illness” as the cause.

The statement posted on Cinecon’s Facebook page also clarified that while Eden would not be able to attend the September 5 event, they would still be honoring her with the Legacy Award as planned, with Pat Boone accepting it on her behalf.

On September 6, Eden took to her Instagram to clarify what she described as a “miscommunication” regarding what actually prompted her cancellation.

“It’s ok everyone! I’m okay!” her message began. “I’m not suffering from an illness,” Eden corrected, explaining that her doctor had prescribed her a new medication that had “some nasty side effects.”

“Due to the discomfort, my doctor ordered me to remain at home until it can be sorted out,” she continued. Eden also noted the “awful timing” of the whole thing but expressed appreciation for everyone’s concern.

She assured her followers, “This is just a speedbump! I expect to be out and about as soon as I’m given the go-ahead!”

At 95, Eden has no plans of slowing down. She recently told Entertainment Weekly that she is still eager to work should a well written script come along. She also said she’d be especially be interested in portraying a villain. “I could be really mean,” she said.
