Ariana Grande Confirms Break From Spotlight, Says Decision Was Not ‘Reactive or Impulsive’

Ariana Grande will step back from the spotlight after her Eternal Sunshine Tour ends in London on September 1, her representative confirmed. The singer says the decision was long planned, not an impulsive reaction.

Ariana Grande will be stepping back from the public eye after completing her ‘Eternal Sunshine Tour” in London on September 1. This is according to a representative for the singer and comments Grande made during a concert in Chicago this week.

"Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour," her representative told People in an exclusive statement. “She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” the statement added.

The 33-year-old songstress also addressed the announcement directly during a performance at Chicago's United Center on Monday. In a video from the show shared to her Instagram stories, she said the decision was “not a reactive or impulsive thing” but one she planned a long time ago. She added the choice was "made from a thoughtful and empowered place."

This break would also mean her withdrawal from a planned West End revival of Stephen Sondheim's "Sunday in the Park with George," in which she was set to star opposite Jonathan Bailey next summer.

The announcement comes amid separate, renewed public scrutiny surrounding Grande's body after she released her latest single, "Petal," and the music video that came with it.

Grande's U.S. tour dates conclude this week in Chicago before she performs a final run of shows in London.
